wine-glass-epcot-disney

After switching our fast-passes and dining reservations what feels like a thousand times, my boyfriend Nick and I decided to spend New Year’s Eve in Epcot this year. We spent the day walking around Future World, designing cars, and hanging out with some fish friends on the Finding Nemo ride and having lunch next to sharks, stingrays and thousands of types of fish at the Coral Reef restaurant. But like any twenty-something going to Disney, we of course spent time drinking around the world in Epcot.

Now, as my college-drinking days are behind me, I was adamant about not starting getting drinks too early in the day. We were going to be there past midnight after all! (I’m secretly a hundred year old woman in a twenty-something body.) The first flaw in my plan? Taking photos in the dark with thousands of people milling around trying to get all their drinks in every country before the new year hit, too. (You’ll see evidence in the decrease in photo quality as the night goes on.) The second flaw in my plan? My boyfriend and I both don’t care for beer, so it was liquor in every country. While he ordered his own in every country, I merely “sipped” my way through each country – but that counts still, right?

Check out some of our highlights from exploring, eating and drinking around the world in Epcot on New Year’s Eve.

Drinking Around the World in Epcot

Japan

Japan was a great stop along World Showcase and one of our favorites. The Hana Fuga sake was a sparkling, light and crisp peach flavor and we even ate a late dinner here later in the night. We ate Japanese food three time in a week (!!!), it’s Nick’s favorite and it was his birthday week. But I have to say, the Shrimp Tempura Udon from the Katsura Grill was amazing, so I can’t complain. Nick’s official score for the Hana Fuga peach sparkling sake in Japan: 7/10.

Canada

Canada was one of our first stops of the day and had a ton of natural beauty. The mock-Niagara Falls was really fun to walk through and there was tons of sights to see throughout the “country.” We stopped by a quick service dining station for this Ottowa Apple: Crown Royal Maple Whiskey, Apple Infusion, and Cranberry Juice. I wasn’t a fan (I’m not a fan of most whiskeys), but Nick’s review is 7/10 likely to recommend it to others.

France

Now, France is one of my favorite places in the world and when I walked up and saw this drink on the menu, my love for the country was just reaffirmed. A Cosmopolitan with Grand Mariner was the speciality cocktail this day (one of my typical go-to’s sans Grand Mariner). It also came in this cute little fishbowl glass with a glowing ice cube inside, so that everyone we waked by asked where we got them! Aside from the drinks, France has some of my favorite delicacies. I had the most amazing chocolate macaroon ice cream sandwich that may or may not forever stand out in my mind as the most mind-blowing dessert on the planet.
The Nick-official review for Cosmos in France: 9/10

Germany

If you like meat and beer, you’ll definitely be spending a lot of time in Germany. I, however, like neither; nor does Nick. So, needless to say we stopped in for a quick Jaeger shot and moved on. If you like Jaeger, you pretty much know what you’re in for here. But the official rating for a Jaeger-lover like Nick? 9/10.

Mexico

A margarita tastes even better in Mexico! This pomegranate lime margarita from the quick-service stop in Mexico hit the spot. It was very sweet, which I love. But if you don’t have a big sweet tooth like me then you may opt for a standard lime margarita. I haven’t had them myself, but I’ve heard great things about the shrimp tacos as well! Grab a margarita, eat a taco, then float around the Mexico pavilion on the Gran Fiesta Tour.
Margarita Official Nick-rating: 6/10

Morocco

In Morocco, we stopped by a quick-service kiosk for a Tangier’s Breeze: Absolut peach vodka topped with Midori and pineapple juice. Morocco was a really cool destination along World Showcase Lagoon. The architecture and design of the area made you really feel like you were there, plus if you’re lucky you can even meet Jasmine from Aladdin. The shops were really cool and filled with authentic Moroccan goods. The cocktail gets a Nick rating of 6/10.

Italy

On New Year’s Eve, Italy had a huge dance party/rave going on in the center square. Unfortunately, they weren’t doing wine flights this day and they were out of the white option by the time we got there, but we settled happily for a shot of Limoncello. You can certainly spend all day hanging out in Italy in Epcot, working your way through wine, cannolis, gelato and pasta! Limoncello is not a Nick-favorite, so that gets a 7/10 rating.

United States

Ah, the good ‘ole U. S. of A. The first thing I saw as we walked up to this pavilion was a big sign advertising “pumpkin spiced funnel cake,” and I knew I was home… and I couldn’t stop laughing. America had a decent New Year’s Eve crowd but it seemed to be tailored to a slightly younger age ground (not that I’m complaining, we were in Disney after all). Last time we were drinking around the world in Epcot two years ago, we completely forgot to stop and get a drink in America. This year, we remembered and ordered a sparkling cabernet sauvignon. I didn’t like it at all (but I never like red wine); Nick gives it a 5/10.

China

China had an incredible New Year’s Eve celebration with fire shooting out of the main structure in the middle of the pavilion. The drink of choice here was called Peach Snap! The only information about it was that it contained Schnapps. It was okay, but at this point we were all peached out. The Nick official rating: 5/10.

United Kingdom

Drinking Around the World in Epcot

If you follow me on Instagram you know that London is my favorite place in the world, so tearing me out of the United Kingdom pavilion in Epcot is a hard task. Here you can shop for British, Irish and Scottish gifts, have fish and chips, hang out on Upper Regency Street and have a Magner’s Pear Cider like we did. This British beverage got a 5/10 on the official Nick scorecard.

Norway

Norway was actually our first stop of the day for breakfast, but our last stop when drinking around the world in Epcot. For breakfast, I had a fruit parfait and (#sorrynotsorry) mini Frozen-themed cupcakes and Nick had a smoked salmon and egg sandwich. The Norway pavilion is home to the new Frozen ride, which at one point during the day had a five hour wait time. FIVE HOURS. There is also a character meet and greet with Ana and Elsa in Norway, which we also didn’t do. But our last drink of the evening was a sparkling white wine, which got the Nick-approval rating of an 8/10.
