Sweet Treats DIY Christmas Gift

DIY Christmas Gift

For my next holiday gift exchange, I decided to combine all my favorite things to make a super sweet present- baking, DIY and sweets! This has been ongoing project for awhile now as I tried to figure out what exactly I wanted to include in this gift and how I wanted to bring it all together.

The first thing I decided was to make mason jar recipes! I have received countless mason jar recipes for baked goods from department stores and bake shoppes and I think they are so adorable! It’s easy to go to the store and buy one, but I wanted to put a little more thought behind it and find a recipe I really thought was great.

I first made the Brownie Mix Sand Art Mason Jar Recipe I found online from Taste of Home and it was so simple! Most of the ingredients we already had in bulk in my house. So all I had to do was find a mason jar and get a ribbon to tie it up nicely.

Brownie Recipe Mason Jar

What do I need?

-1 Wide-Mouth, Quart-sized Mason Jar

-1 cup + 2 tablespoons of All-Purpose Flour

-1/2 teaspoon of salt

-2/3 cup Packed Brown Sugar

-2/3 cup Sugar

-1/3 cup Baking Cocoa

-1/2 cup Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips

-1/2 cup Vanilla or White Chips

-1/2 cup Chopped Pecans

What do I do?

1. Combine flour and salt in a small bowl. In the mason jar, use the flour mixture as  the first layer in the mason jar. Then layer the rest of the ingredients in this order: brown sugar, sugar, cocoa, chips and pecans. I used the back of a spoon to pack down the dense ingredients, like the brown sugar and chips.

That’s it. So easy right?! I then tied a ribbon around the lid for decorations, but you can also get a piece of burlap or fabric for the top, anything else your heart desires to decorate the jar!

Note: The actual recipe also calls for three eggs, 2/3 cup of canola oil, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. When making, these ingredients should be whisked together and added to the brownie mix. Pour the mixture into a square baking pan and bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Be sure to include a cute little notecard or sticker with the rest of the ingredients and instructions on the mason jar!

When I was at Homegoods doing some Christmas shopping, I found this adorable little Gingerbread man mug! This sparked my next idea for a mason jar recipe.

It’s not so much as a recipe as it is hot chocolate in a jar. But seriously, I drink so much hot chocolate in the winter! Plus, my secret santa has a small child, so I would assume a lot of hot chocolate gets drank in their home in preparation for Santa’s visit. So, in the shopping cart my gingerbread man mug went.

I seriously squealed with delight when I came across these cute gingerbread men and snowmen marshmallows at Shop Rite. They are the perfect addition to my next mason jar ‘recipe.’Hot Chocolate Mason Jar

For this mason jar, I filled it half way with Swiss Miss Milk Chocolate instant hot chocolate mix, and mixed together the gingerbread men and snowmen marshmallows on top. Make sure to arrange the marshmallows so you can see the shapes clearly in the mason jar!

I wasn’t sure how I was going to display this creation, so I bought a small rectangular crate from Michaels and red crinkle paper. With the left-over white acrylic paint from my Santa Claus Wine Bottle, I painted the outside of the crate white and filled the bottom with red crinkle paper.

I assembled my mason jars with my mug in the (now festive) crate for display. To top off the present, I added some of my homemade cookies! In individual snowmen baggies we had at my house, I created little goodie bags of my homemade sugar cookies, homemade chocolate peppermint bark, cranberry white chocolate chip oatmeal cookies, and chocolate chip cookies. I assembled the goodie bags around the crate and viola! My perfect Sweet Treats DIY Christmas Gift!
